Even after three weeks of vacation, I am still in shock that we have completed an entire year of PA school and are in our final didactic term. I think it finally felt real to me when I was helping the incoming class with their orientation and white coat ceremony. It was really nice because a group of 10-15 students from my class helped "coat" and welcome the new students last week. It is hard to believe that the picture on the right of this blog entry was taken at our white coat ceremony about a year ago. That white coat felt so fresh, clean and uncomfortable. Now, my white coat has some stains, creases and wear. Before we know it, a year from now we will be prepping for graduation and.... the PANCE.
I hope that everyone who has spent time reading my blog has enjoyed the past year and will stay tuned for what this coming year has to tell. The classes this term have a more team-focused approach and less of independent study as previous classes have had. Our schedule looks a little like this:
Community Health: we are already starting to brainstorm a project that will involve some research about a certain culture or religion and how we will address differences and difficulties in our practices. Also, we will work in teams to discuss issues and problem that we face in healthcare today.
Research Methods: we are also researching a topic in this class however it's focus is more medically based, for example we have to come up with a topic/problem and create our own research paper/poster that will be presented next year. Much like community health, we will work in teams to discuss upcoming research and topics. It looks like that Medical Informatics class will come in handy =p
FCM III: final FCM with topics such as, hematology, ENT, oncology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, OB/GYN, and neurology
Counseling and Preventative Medicine: so far, it seems like this class is a lot like the communications/sociology type of classes I had at ACPHS, I am looking forward to seeing what we will learn!
Pharmacology II: Second term of pharm!
FCCE III: Final CCE where we interact with a patient actor for a multi-system focused problem
