So after a torturous 7 weeks we have finally made it to summer break. I have not had the time to post in a while because our schedule has been hectic. I feel like I am constantly buried in work to do and if not then I feel guilt that I should be doing work ... so then I find something to do. I'll be honest and say that when the upper classmen told us that the summer was hectic and busy, they were right. It is not "impossible" but it is barely possible. I think that if they added on anything else to this term I may just self combust!
This past week was what I would consider one of the hardest weeks in all of my academic career. We had an FCM test on respiratory diseases like pneumonias, obstructive lung disease (COPD, asthma), restrictive lung disease (fibrosis, sarcoidosis) and various other conditions in the field of pulmonology...AND we had a test in Diagnostic Methods on Chest X-rays. For some reason I spent more time on these topics than any topic we had so far... that could be for multiple reasons, 1. I finally found a better way to study this material but it took more time 2. it took a long time to memorize the information that I needed to memorize 3. I didn't fully understand everything so it took longer to learn all the conditions in complete detail... either way, whatever I did this time for this round of tests, I will be doing again because I did much better than expected this time.
We now have a break off and I am going to work 4 days out of the 8 day break because I want to keep my job for the winter break (which is 3 weeks) and I also want to see how much I know and remember from class. I know that I cannot be applying or acting on applying the kind of things we are learning in PA school because I am still only a tech in the ER, but I can be more aware of what is going on around me and be more familiar with the flow of tasks.
Aside from work at the hospital, I will be taking this break nice and easy while enjoying my time off from all the stress.
