Someone in our class mentioned that we are already 1/3 of the way through the summer! I was thinking that we were still in the first beginning phases of summer until she made me think again... maybe this wont be so bad after all. I know 1/3 doesn't sound like much, reading this you are probably like... "1/3 isn't something to get excited about." But yes! yes it is because I am realizing that we wont have to be studying constantly ... constantly for day in and day out the rest of the time... We will have vacation! We will get there! Because you know what? the studying stinks. Everyday, every night, every hour, every minute I am thinking that I should be studying. When I take a break I feel guilty. Even writing this blog entry right now I feel guilty for not having my nose in a book. I am not the only person who feels this way either... maybe we are all alike in this PA program... maybe that's part of what they look for in the interview..."who are the crazy ones who will devote their lives and all their free time to read, learn, and practice in order to become great clinicians and save lives?" When we set aside free time for ourselves its because we think we did enough studying to "earn" it. But still when I do take free time... i feel guilty. Part of me is always thinking that if I don't do well on the next test its because I am not using all the time in the day for my priorities... Okay, yes we also need time to relax and time for sanity, but most of my breaks I take are not for that reason, most of my breaks are because I'm being lazy and don't want to study anymore =p BUT! When my classmate mentioned that we are not 1/3 of the way through one of the roughest terms... I started to jump for joy. We are just starting but we are also cruising through.
This coming week we have two exams and a standardized patient practice for a whole physical exam. Needless to say, this weekend has been a rough one. The week after this we only have one test and that'll be nice when we can just focus on one subject at a time for once!
