One of the great privileges of AMC's PA school is that we can use the patient simulation center to learn how all these diseases and conditions appear on patients. Today we used the Student Auscultation Manikin "SAM" for heart sounds. SAM was set up to play a variety of sounds so that we could easily compare the difference between the sounds in all areas of the thorax. Right now we do not have to memorize these sounds but we will have a series of ones that we need to master in the summer when we take a specific cardio class. I am so grateful for this experience, after all, a computer generated screen playing sounds is not as memorable or tangible as this. Putting my stethoscope on SAM I was able to learn the best positioning to hear the sounds. We were able to change the volume from a soft natural sound to a much louder sound for learning. When first learning theses sounds we have to train our ears to hear the faint differences between the sounds so it is much easier when we can adjust the volume. This center also has many other uses but we will get to them later in the term and later in other classes. Eventually in March we will have patient volunteers come in for the pelvic exams.

**As many of you can tell, I graduated AMC's program in May of 2017. Current plan is to start a new blog related to my Fellowship after PA school. Stay tuned for the link and updates :)**
